Rzeszów News: What’s Happening in the Capital of Podkarpacie?

Rzeszów is a city in southeastern Poland, the capital of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the center of the Rzeszów Metropolitan Area. It is a vibrant and dynamic city, with a rich history, culture and economy. In this blog post, we will look at some of the latest news and events happening in Rzeszów and its surroundings.

Beatification of the Ulm Family

One of the most important events that will take place in Rzeszów and the nearby village of Markowa is the beatification of the Ulm family, who were killed by the Nazis for hiding Jews during World War II. The ceremony will be held on September 24, 2023, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows in Rzeszów, and will be attended by President Andrzej Duda, Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz and other dignitaries. The Ulm family, consisting of Józef and Wiktoria and their seven children, were shot by the German police on March 24, 1944, after being betrayed by a neighbor. They were recognized as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem in 1995 and as Servants of God by Pope Francis in 2015.

The beatification of the Ulm family is a great honor for Rzeszów and Podkarpacie, as well as a testimony of their heroic faith and love for their neighbors. The event will be accompanied by various cultural and educational activities, such as exhibitions, concerts, lectures and workshops. One of them is the interactive container “Time Machine”, which allows visitors to learn about the history and fate of the Ulm family and other Polish rescuers of Jews. The container is located at the Institute of National Remembrance in Rzeszów.
